  • SPOTLIGHT ON THE VIA with CHLOE RIVEN

Published in Spotlights on April 13,2022

Today we're putting a spotlight on the Via Cycling Shoes with seasoned cyclist, Chloe Riven!

Our Via Cycling Shoes are the newest addition to our footwear family. Built with the DNA of our best selling indoor cycling shoes, the Slipstreams, we added a toggle closure and weather resistant materials for added durability.

Read on to get to know Chloe and what she loves about the Via Cycling Shoes!

Meet Chloe, she's currently a student at Columbia Universtiy working on getting her Master's of Science in Social Work, specializing in Aging and Gerontology. Chloe has always been an avid indoor cyclist at her local studios, but when the pandemic hit and her favorite workouts were unavailable she knew she had to switch up her routine.

Tell us a little more about your journey in the cycling world!

My outdoor cycling journey began in the Spring of 2020, when the pandemic first hit. I knew I needed to spend time outdoors for my own mental and physical well-being. I decided to make the investment in a road bike, as I explored every cycling trail in Washington, D.C. I was attracted to cycling in particular because I love that this sport is easy on my joints and that I am still able to see beautiful views on new trails.

Cycling has been a major factor of my health and fitness routine. As a current New York City resident, and soon to be a Colorado resident, I have turned to Central Park to do my workouts on a daily basis. I have also completed the Five Boro Bike Tour 40-mile bike race in all five boros of the city, which was completed in my TIEM shoes!

How long have you been riding in the Via?

I have been riding in my lovely Via shoes since Fall 2021. I have had additional TIEM products since 2020.

What was your first impression of the Via Cycling Shoe?

The moment I slipped the Via cycling shoe on, my first impression was that it is extremely comfortable, hugs my foot in just the right places and easy to put on with the adjustable laces. I also noticed that the footbed is sturdy for riding, yet flexible and breathable enough to walk around town post-ride. I was looking for a cycling shoe that is compatible with SPD cleats, which these are 100% compatible. TIEM also sells the cleats separately which was a huge plus, very appealing and convenient!

"In addition, I absolutely support TIEM’s mission and how the company promotes empowerment initiatives and causes. The sustainability of materials is very thoughtful as well, as the Via includes a weather-resistant and durable fabric which makes up the uniqueness of the overall shoe."

How does the Via impact your ride?

The Via Cycling Shoes are incredibly versatile. Since I am primarily a road cyclist, these shoes were the best style for me since I have the intention of clipping in while riding. Once I am finished with an outside ride, these shoes give me the great ability to stay mobile on my feet. I can still walk around with comfort and ease without ruining the clips on the bottom of my shoes. The traction on the bottom is unreal. I can safely walk on any terrain and still receive the grip I need to stay up while carrying my bike around town!

In addition, I absolutely support TIEM’s mission and how the company promotes empowerment initiatives and causes. The sustainability of materials is very thoughtful as well, as the Via includes a weather-resistant and durable fabric which makes up the uniqueness of the overall shoe.

Besides cycling, what else do you do to maintain a healthy lifestyle?

Besides cycling, I enjoy cooking and additional outdoor activities such as running and hiking. I recently ran the New York City Marathon and raised over $5,000 to provide mental health resources for people recovering from addiction. I also have a goal to hike all of Colorado’s 14,000 foot mountains starting this summer.

I love to cook clean and plant-based food and write blogs about my health food journey. Finally, I find value in contributing to community service, particularly providing companionship for individuals who have lost loved ones from an overdose and sudden death.
